Prison guards charged with murder of handcuffed inmate

New York prison officers have been charged with the murder of 43-year-old inmate Robert Brooks. Bodycam footage shows that he was violently beaten while his hands were handcuffed behind his back. Governor Kathy Hochul called the attack "repugnant" and immediately initiated proceedings to fire the officers involved. Brooks died on December 10 at Wynn Hospital in Utica, one day after being transferred to Marcy Prison. The autopsy concluded that the cause of death was homicide, with signs of compression of the neck.
