Jose Velasquez, 45, was wanted for the murder of a 38-year-old woman in Temecula. Menifee police had asked Santa Ana authorities to arrest him. His vehicle was spotted, but he refused to stop, triggering a pursuit. At around 6:50 a.m., Newport Beach police were notified of his arrival in town. Stuck on the pier, Velasquez got out of his vehicle with a gun. Without firing a shot, the police opened fire. He died on the spot. No other injuries were reported.
