Two teenage girls were arrested in Tehran after posting a video of themselves dancing on Instagram. The scene took place in front of the Unknown Martyrs Monument, dedicated to the victims of the Iran-Iraq war. The young women were wearing clothing deemed "inappropriate" by the authorities, and their Instagram accounts were blocked. Since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, dancing in public has been banned in Iran, an offense that can result in up to 99 lashes. Their fate remains uncertain, but Iranian law is strict on these "crimes against modesty".
