A woman keeps her cool in the face of a knife-wielding hostage-taker in São Paulo

A woman taken hostage at a bus stop in São Paulo, Brazil, has been praised for her calm even as her attacker held a knife to her throat. The terrifying incident was filmed, showing the assailant shouting at police negotiators while firmly holding her victim. The victim remained calm throughout the incident, keeping her arms crossed. Negotiations lasted almost 40 minutes before the police intervened with a stun gun. The victim was taken to the Vergueiro Urgent Care Unit for treatment of several bruises on his neck. The suspect, who was also treated medically, was subsequently transferred to a police station for kidnapping charges.
