In a squalid house in Walsall, the RSPCA discovered 34 animals locked up in disastrous conditions. The animals, infested with fleas and starving, were living among the garbage and excrement that covered the floor. Among them were 24 dogs, including a puppy with a broken leg, seven cats, a hamster and two rats. Two owners were banned for life from owning animals and received a 20-week suspended prison sentence. They pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including failing to provide veterinary care for the animals. A third person was fined £50 and ordered to pay £100 costs.
