Pro-Kiev versus pro-Putin: Six hours of fighting between priests to take control of Ukraine's largest church

In Cherkassy, Ukraine's largest cathedral was the scene of a six-hour battle between pro-Kyiv priests and Putin supporters, armed with sticks, benches and other improvised objects! Tensions crystallized around control of the sacred building, with pro-Moscow elements attempting to take the site back from the Ukrainian faithful. Gas, fire extinguishers and even weapons (unused) added to the chaotic scene. The fight symbolizes Ukraine's struggle for spiritual independence from the influence of the Putin-backed Russian church.
