In a climate of growing tension in Bangladesh, a protest movement against the quota system for government jobs has degenerated into looting and rioting across the country. The country's minority community, predominantly Hindu, has been particularly targeted. The situation escalated when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India without an interim government in place. Reports on social networks show burning temples and Hindu homes and businesses attacked by Islamist groups. Bangladesh's Daily Star reports that Hindu property and commercial establishments were targeted and looted in at least 27 districts on Monday.
