Elderly brutally assaulted in Oakland, shortly after mayor's crime eulogy

An elderly woman was the victim of a brutal unprovoked assault in crime-ridden Oakland. The incident, filmed and shared on social networks, shows the victim carrying a bag and suitcase when a man wearing a black "Wild Boyz" hoodie violently punches her in the head. After this assault, the man tries to hit another passer-by also carrying a suitcase. He then stole the old lady's purse and the other passer-by's suitcase, while four men who had witnessed the scene gave chase. The identities of the victims and the assailant have still not been revealed, and it is unclear whether the assailant has been arrested. This comes just days after the mayor, Sheng Thao, boasted of the decline in crime in the city. Thao is currently facing a recall election, less than two years after his inauguration, due to rising crime and budget problems.
