German police shoot threatening man with axe and Molotov

On a Sunday in Hamburg, northern Germany, the police had to intervene when confronted by a man armed with a sledgehammer and a Molotov cocktail. The man refused to surrender, prompting the police to open fire. The man, wounded in the leg, was immediately taken into medical care. The incident took place in the popular St. Pauli district, where thousands of fans had gathered for a Euro 2024 match between the Netherlands and Poland. The police found no link between the incident and the soccer match. It should also be noted that at a separate event, police shot dead an Afghan man after a violent attack on several people a few days earlier.
