During an eviction operation on May 9, 2023 on Tiffany Street in Brooklyn, Byron Harvey was shot and wounded by Constable Romello Lumpkin after threatening the officers with a knife. The intervention had been requested following Harvey's refusal to leave the premises and the presence of a large dog in his apartment. After Harvey ignored orders to drop his knife and threatened the officers, Lumpkin responded by firing. The Office of the Inspector General found this action to be in compliance with Connecticut law, confirming the legitimacy of the use of force in this situation.
