The Camden Sheriff's Office is being sued for $16 million following the shooting death of a man, Leonard Cure, during a speeding traffic stop in October. Cure, released in 2020 after a wrongful conviction for theft, had received more than $900,000 from the Florida legislature. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump points out that the $16 million represents $1 million for every year Cure spent in prison, plus expected years of life. The family of Cure, who died on his 54th birthday, is devastated. The officer involved, Buck Aldridge, already known for his excessive use of force, was fired in 2017 for a similar incident.
