In a disturbing incident, a driver under the influence violently crashed into a store, causing €120,000 damage, after reaching 125km/h in a 50km/h restricted zone during a police pursuit in Swindon. Liam Wells, 31, avoided jail but was banned from driving for two years following the early morning incident on March 4. The accident occurred near a fast-food outlet that was frequented at the time. Wells had first been spotted without headlights on Pinehurst Road and failed to comply when a police car activated its flashing lights. He later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving under the influence, driving without insurance or a license and expressed regret, personally apologizing to the owner of the damaged store. Wells was given a 16-month suspended sentence and ordered to undergo a 30-month rehabilitation program, as well as a reflection program. He must also pay 510€ in court costs.
