Pursuit and arrest of a young man who drew a gun in the street (5 years in prison)

In a chilling episode in downtown Birmingham in June, a teenager, Nikye Thomas, 19, brandished a loaded gun in broad daylight. At around 3.10pm on June 24, after struggling for a small bag, Thomas pulled the gun out of the bag and pointed it at a man on a bike, who, taken aback, fell and fled. While attempting to flee, Thomas was pursued by armed police. Surveillance cameras show the teenager dropping his weapon - containing six bullets - in a chic shopping mall. He was finally apprehended at Birmingham New Street station. Found in his possession: cannabis, scales and a telephone. Tried at Birmingham Crown Court, Thomas was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear and six months for possession of cannabis for the purpose of supply
