An unlicensed driver avoided jail after hitting 75-year-old Patricia Faulkner and killing her dog when he lost control of his car on a country road. Patricia, who was seriously injured, described the verdict as "disgusting". The driver, Kallum Aish, aged 17 at the time, had escaped after the accident and turned himself in to the police a week later. 17 months after the incident, Birmingham Crown Court handed him a 22-month suspended sentence for a number of offences, including dangerous driving causing serious injury. Judge Mukherjee acknowledged that his sentence would not satisfy anyone
