On February 5, 2021, in San Diego, Deanna Beck, a former SeaWorld dolphin trainer, was seriously injured in the parking lot of her Mission Valley apartment complex. As she walked, a Waste Management garbage truck hit her in reverse. Surveillance cameras show that the driver, allegedly on the phone, didn't see her and hit her with the truck's metal spikes, throwing her violently to the ground. Beck suffered injuries to her spine, neck, coccyx and a traumatic brain injury causing neurological problems. She is suing the company, claiming damages in excess of $25,000 for negligence.
