"Elena Milashina, a renowned Russian journalist, and her fellow lawyer, Alexander Nemov, were violently assaulted during a business trip to Chechnya, a territory ruled by Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov. A mixture of horror and a kung-fu movie (except that the good guys lose), Milashina had her head shaved and her fingers broken, and Nemov was stabbed. Despite the seriousness of their injuries, both continue to plan to attend a trial related to human rights violations. The Kadyrov regime, notorious for its abuses, had previously branded Milashina a "terrorist". Perhaps for him, "terrorist" is synonymous with "journalist"?
