Daniel Álvarez, who was facing charges of pedophilia and child pornography in the Southern District of New York, jumped from the third floor of the Medellín Attorney General's building while being escorted by agents. Rescuers tried to save him by rushing him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Colombian authorities have opened an investigation to determine whether Álvarez attempted to escape or whether he tried to commit suicide. Álvarez was a professor at a private university in Sabaneta and had taught English and leather making to students online and in person.
