A handcuffed man escapes the police and throws himself into the void

On April 10, a tragic event occurred at Cedar Bluffs Nature Preserve in Bloomington. A man, initially suspected of trying to throw a woman off a cliff, ultimately threw himself off the cliff in the midst of a mental breakdown. Monroe County deputies were able to subdue the individual, identified as David Howard, before handcuffing him. However, as they prepared to transfer him to a psychiatric hospital, Howard broke free and ran off the cliff. Despite a deputy's attempt to restrain him, Howard jumped and died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
