The Volusia Sheriff's Office released a video of a deputy shooting a man (Michael Collmar) who attacked him with a knife during a temporary insane episode. The incident occurred after police were called to a home where Michael Collmar was threatening people. Despite attempts to subdue Collmar with tasers and a reduced lethality shotgun, he ran toward the deputy and was shot. Collmar was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for surgery. He faces four counts of assault on law enforcement. This was the second time in the last three weeks that Collmar exhibited erratic behavior and was not responsive to attempts to communicate. Collmar had a criminal history of 31 felonies and 33 misdemeanors (!!!), including a recent release from prison after serving 4 years for stabbing a man multiple times.
