A tanker under maintenance catches fire and explodes in Thailand

An explosion and fire occurred on an oil tanker moored for maintenance on the Mae Klong river in Muang district, resulting in one confirmed death and four injuries. Seven people are still unaccounted for, and unconfirmed reports suggest a second body has been found. The explosion occurred during welding while around 10 workers were aboard the ship and 30 were on the dockyard. The governor said the tanker still had 25,000 liters of fuel oil and 20,000 liters of diesel onboard while moored for maintenance. The Marine Department is investigating the cause of the fire, and the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare will question the employer to determine if there were any violations of the Occupational Health Safety Act.
